HB 1219 Summary

• Adds new provisions to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapters 636, 657D, and 667 to protect military reserve component members and state military forces members from foreclosure proceedings while deployed outside the United States.

• Prohibits any court or creditor from commencing foreclosure or lien enforcement proceedings against a state resident military member until one year after the member returns to Hawaii, provided the member is deployed for at least 90 consecutive days and has substantially reduced mail capability.

• Applies protections to reserve component members of any branch of the United States Armed Forces and members of the state military forces who own real property secured by mortgages or subject to liens.

• Takes effect upon approval.
