HI HB1926

Amends the offense of assault in the second degree to protect physical therapists and other medical services providers working in federally qualified health centers, long-term care facilities, specialized nursing facilities, dentist's offices, home care agencies, home health agencies, hospices, and physician's offices.

Extends protection to both licensed medical professionals and unlicensed medical professionals involved in the direct care of patients.

Establishes a deterrent to violence against medical services providers, citing federal data showing health care workers experience violent assaults four times more than the national average.

Effective upon approval by the Governor.

Recommended to pass and referred to the Committee on Judiciary and Labor.
