Defines "place of formal hunting" as state or federal land where hunting is permitted, or private land where the landowner has granted written permission to hunt or target shoot.

Requires hunters carrying rifles, shotguns, or pistols to obtain written permission from the landowner before hunting on privately owned land, in addition to obtaining a hunting license.

Amends firearm and ammunition transport regulations to reference "place of formal hunting" as a lawful destination for carrying unloaded firearms in enclosed containers.

Strengthens trespassing prohibitions by requiring written permission (rather than just verbal permission) from landowners before entering private land to hunt or take wildlife.

Effective July 1, 2012.
