Department of Human Services requested to conduct a study on the expanded adult protective services law (Act 154, Session Laws of Hawaii 2008) that took effect July 1, 2009

Study must identify causes for the wide disparity between investigated cases (1,160 in fiscal year 2011) and confirmed cases (99 in fiscal year 2011)

Department must document disposition and referral status of confirmed and non-confirmed cases by age bracket, including tracking of subsequent reports for originally non-confirmed cases

Department directed to implement changes to data collection systems to capture case dispositions by age bracket and identify service gaps for specific populations, such as adults under 60 not qualifying for Department of Health services

Preliminary report due 20 days before 2013 Regular Session and final report due 20 days before 2014 Regular Session, including findings on case disparities, service gaps, and actions taken to improve data collection
