Honors Army Private First Class Edward Barut, a 2004 Waipahu High School graduate from Hawaii, for his military service and receipt of the Purple Heart Medal and Combat Action Badge.

Recognizes Barut's service with the 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery, 41st Fires Brigade, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Acknowledges that on October 26, 2011, Barut's NATO Training Mission convoy was ambushed twice in Tangi Valley, Afghanistan, during a brutal 45-minute attack involving rocket-propelled grenades, small arms fire, and improvised explosive devices.

Notes that Barut and his twelve fellow service members successfully defended themselves and were awarded Purple Heart Medals and Combat Action Badges on October 31, 2011, in recognition of their bravery and sacrifice.

Expresses the Hawaii House of Representatives' deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Barut for his exemplary military service, honor, distinction, and courage in serving the nation.
