HI SB2142

Establishes permanent protective orders when courts issue orders to prevent felony sexual offenses or felony child abuse between family or household members.

Expands the definition of "domestic abuse" to include sexual offenses and child abuse committed by one family or household member against another, removing age restrictions from the previous definition.

Allows permanent protective orders to include all previous orders and additional relief such as temporary custody and visitation arrangements for minor children and mandatory participation in domestic violence intervention services.

Permits non-permanent protective orders to be extended for additional fixed periods with court hearings to determine whether extension is warranted based on evidence of abuse.

Effective July 1, 2050.
