SB 2201 - Buy American Act

• Establishes a preference for procurement of iron, steel, and manufactured goods produced in the United States for all public works contracts in Hawaii.

• Requires that iron, steel, and manufactured goods used in construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, improvement, or maintenance of public buildings and works be manufactured in the United States.

• Allows waivers of the requirement if the director or department head finds that: application would be against public interest, domestic materials are unavailable in sufficient quantities or satisfactory quality, or including domestic materials would increase project costs by more than 25 percent.

• Prohibits affixing "Made in America" labels to foreign-made products or misrepresenting products as American-made; violators become ineligible for state contracts.

• Takes effect July 1, 2012.
