Repeals the requirement that gasoline sold in Hawaii for motor vehicles contain at least ten percent ethanol by volume.

Original 2006 ethanol requirement intended to reduce gasoline consumption, establish local ethanol production plants, and reduce dependence on foreign oil.

Committee found that expected benefits have not been realized and concerns exist regarding engine damage to boats and small engines from ethanol-treated gasoline.

Notes that global fuel crop production has displaced food crop production, contributing to increased food prices.

Committee recommends consideration of alternative energy sources and different fuel blends as alternatives to the ethanol requirement.
