S.B. 2737 Summary

• Expands the definition of acceptable meeting technology by replacing "videoconference" with "interactive conference technology," which includes teleconference, videoconference, and voice over internet protocol systems that facilitate interaction between the public and board members.

• Requires interactive conference technology to allow audio and visual interaction among all board members and members of the public attending the meeting at any identified location.

• Permits meetings to continue using audio-only communication if visual aids are provided to all participants within 15 minutes; if visual aids cannot be distributed within that timeframe, related agenda items cannot be acted upon at the meeting.

• Allows board members with disabilities that limit their ability to physically attend meetings to participate from a non-public location if connected by both visual and audio means and if they identify their location and any persons present with them.

• Takes effect on July 1, 2012.
