Authorizes the Department of Human Services to conduct adult abuse perpetrator checks on child care providers, including license-exempt providers who care for children receiving child care subsidies from the department.

Extends background checks to applicants seeking to operate child care facilities, prospective employees of applicants, licensed child care providers, and new employees of registered or licensed providers.

Aims to identify individuals with a history of maltreatment of vulnerable individuals to ensure safety and health of children in regulated and legally exempt child care settings.

Received support from the Department of Human Services and the Hawaii Association for the Education of Young Children during committee review.
