Urges the Department of Transportation to use capital improvement budget funds to design and construct a shared-use path along Kahekili Highway between East Hui 'Iwa Street and the intersection of Kahekili and Kamehameha Highways near the Hygienic Store

Department of Transportation's fiscal year 2011-2012 capital improvement budget includes $1,600,000 allocated for this shared-use path project

Committee finds the Department currently holds sufficient right-of-way along the specified route to accommodate a shared-use path while allowing for any concurrent highway widening or contraflow options under construction

Design and construction could proceed expeditiously and provide additional construction jobs during economic recovery

Committee on Transportation and International Affairs concurs with the resolution and recommends referral to the Committee on Ways and Means
