Requests the Department of Health and Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to conduct a study on promoting workplace wellness programs in Hawaii.

Study should examine direct subsidies or regulatory relief for large and small companies adopting wellness programs, methods to improve long-term employee health outcomes, and strategies to reduce medical costs and insurance premiums for employers.

Departments must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2013 Regular Session convenes.

Recognizes that large employers see return on investment of $3.27 in medical cost savings and $2.73 in reduced absentee costs for every dollar spent on wellness programs.
