Urges the Department of Transportation to use capital improvement budget funds to design and construct a shared-use path along Kahekili Highway between East Hui 'Iwa Street and the intersection with Kamehameha Highway near the Hygienic Store

The Department of Transportation's fiscal year 2011-2012 capital improvement budget includes $1,600,000 allocated for this shared-use path project

Notes that the Department currently has sufficient right-of-way width along this highway segment to accommodate the shared-use path alongside any ongoing highway widening or contraflow construction options

Committee finds the project could proceed expeditiously and provide construction employment during economic recovery

Committee on Transportation and International Affairs recommends passage and referral to the Committee on Ways and Means
