Requests the Department of Health and Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to conduct a study on promoting workplace wellness programs in Hawaii.

Study should examine direct subsidies or regulatory relief for large and small companies adopting wellness programs, methods to improve long-term employee health outcomes, and strategies to reduce medical costs and health insurance premiums.

Departments must submit a report including findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2013 Regular Session convenes.

Highlights that employers see returns of $3.27 in reduced medical costs and $2.73 in reduced absenteeism costs for every dollar spent on wellness programs.
