Encourage the Board of Education and Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Health, to develop and adopt guidelines for training school employees and qualified volunteers to provide diabetes care to students.

Guidelines should address recognition and treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, insulin pump functions, diabetes emergency recognition, meal and physical activity management, and long-term diabetes complications.

Encourage the Board of Education and Department of Education to examine the Kauai Area Complex as a model when developing diabetes care guidelines.

Require the Board of Education and Department of Education to report findings, recommendations, adopted guidelines, proposed legislation, and funding recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2014 Regular Session convenes.

Transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, and Director of Health.
