Office of the Auditor conducted audits of University of Hawaii's faculty workload management in February 1973 and April 1997, both finding inadequate utilization of instructional faculty and insufficient workload policies.

1973 audit identified absence of clear and specific policies governing faculty resource utilization and recommended development of workload governance policies.

1997 audit found improper faculty compensation and recommended the Board of Regents clarify instructional, research, and service workload components; establish minimum teaching assignments; and ensure equitable campus equivalencies.

Office of the Auditor is requested to conduct an updated audit of the University of Hawaii's faculty workload management and submit findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2014 Regular Session convenes.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Office of the Auditor and the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii.
