University of Hawaii Board of Regents is requested to study whether reintegrating the Office of the Chancellor of the University of Hawaii-Manoa with the Office of the President of the University of Hawaii System is prudent.

The Chancellor's office was established in 2001 as a separate position with an expected cost of zero additional administrative expenses to the university system.

In 2011, the Chancellor's office required an annual operational budget of $14.7 million, with estimated additional administrative costs of over $6.4 million since its establishment.

Board of Regents must report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the start of the 2014 Regular Session.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Chair of the Board of Regents, Chancellor of the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and President of the University of Hawaii System.
