H.R. 47 - Taiwan Sister-State Relationship

• Urges the Governor, Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, University of Hawaii Board of Regents, Board of Education, and Hawaii's Congressional delegation to strengthen Hawaii's sister-state relationship with Taiwan on the 20th anniversary of the 1993 partnership.

• Requests support for a free trade agreement between the United States and Taiwan and Taiwan's participation in regional economic integration such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

• Directs the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to launch tourism promotion campaigns to attract more visitors from Taiwan following Taiwan's addition to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program and the establishment of direct flights between Honolulu and Taipei.

• Calls for collaboration between Hawaii and Taiwan on clean energy research and development, renewable energy sources, and sustainable green projects based on their shared energy policy goals.

• Urges the Board of Regents and Board of Education to strengthen educational exchanges with Taiwan and requests Hawaii's Congressional delegation to support Taiwan's participation in international organizations including ICAO, UNFCCC, and WHO.
