Urges insertion of the correct history of the Battle of Kakanilu'a (also known as the Battle of the Feather Capes) into archaeological reports, cultural impact statements, State Historic Preservation Division records, public libraries, and digital collections upon verification.

Requests Maui County ban sand mining and refuse grading permits for sand removal in the Waikapu sand dune area (parcel TMK (2) 3-8-007:101) as ordered by the Maui/Lanai Islands Burial Council in December 2008.

Urges Maui County Council to preserve the remaining Waikapu sand dune area as park and preservation land as specified on the Maui Island Plan Protected Areas Diagram WC-1 adopted in December 2012.

Acknowledges that the Battle of Kakanilu'a occurred in the 1700s between Kahekili of Maui and Kalaniopu'u of Hawaii, resulted in over 3,000 deaths in two days, and was fought in the sand dunes of Waikapu and Wailuku.

Directs certified copies of the resolution be sent to Maui County officials, the State Historic Preservation Division, the Maui/Lanai Islands Burial Council, and related cultural organizations.
