Amends Section 26-34 of Hawaii Revised Statutes to require the governor to strive to achieve or maintain gender equity when nominating and appointing members to state boards and commissions.

Applies to all board and commission appointments made by the governor with senate advice and consent.

Maintains existing requirements that board and commission members serve four-year terms, with initial terms staggered to provide equal expirations at one-year intervals.

Preserves the restriction that no person can serve more than two consecutive terms on the same board or commission, with an overall limit of eight consecutive years.

Takes effect upon approval.
