S.B. No. 6 - Animal Cruelty; Trapping

• Requires immediate reporting to county animal control officers when dogs or cats are captured or killed in steel-jawed leg-hold traps, snares, conibear traps, or foot- or leg-hold traps in residential areas.

• Establishes a misdemeanor offense for intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly using, setting, or maintaining steel-jawed leg-hold traps.

• Prohibits the use of snares, conibear traps, and foot- or leg-hold traps in residential areas or other areas where such traps are prohibited by law or rule.

• Exempts employees of state and federal agencies carrying out approved management plans for threatened or endangered species protection, wildlife protection, or public health and safety purposes.

• Effective date: July 1, 2050.
