Proposes a constitutional amendment to Article VI, Section 3 of the Hawaii State Constitution increasing the mandatory retirement age for state judges and justices from 70 to 80 years of age.

The Department of the Attorney General, League of Women Voters of Hawaii, and one concerned citizen submitted testimony in support of the measure.

The Office of the Public Defender and Department of the Prosecuting Attorney of the City and County of Honolulu submitted comments on the proposal.

The Committee on Judiciary recommended passage and referral to the Committee on Finance for Second Reading.
