Board of Education, in consultation with the State Librarian, is requested to explore the feasibility of activating a statewide library advisory commission for the Hawaii State Public Library System.

Board of Education must report findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation and funding needs, to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2014.

The Hawaii State Public Library System operates fifty library branches and currently hosts programs such as preschool storytimes, storytelling events, author talks, and informational seminars.

Stakeholder input through a library advisory commission could identify strategic goals and priorities, allowing for greater and more diversified uses of library facilities appropriate for each community.

Section 26-12, Hawaii Revised Statutes, authorizes the Board of Education to establish library advisory commissions in each county to advise on public library services.
