S.R. NO. 135 - Olympic Committee

• Urges the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to establish an Olympic Committee to investigate the feasibility of hosting the Olympic Games in Hawaii.

• Requests the Olympic Committee to identify a potential host city in Hawaii and develop a proposal to submit to the International Olympic Committee for hosting the 2024 Olympic Games.

• Requires the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2014 Regular Session convenes.

• Notes that host cities typically are selected seven years in advance and may benefit from increased international exposure, construction jobs, tourism growth, and improved infrastructure.
