Request Judiciary to convene working group examining Hawaii's enhanced sentencing law (section 706-657) for second degree murder cases and extended sentencing laws (sections 706-661 and 706-662)

Working group to include representatives from Attorney General, Department of Public Safety, all county prosecuting attorneys, State Public Defender, and Hawaii State Bar Association Criminal Justice and Corrections Section

Working group directed to determine number of enhanced and extended sentencing cases sought and granted over past ten years, examine time sentenced versus time served for extended sentencing cases, and review criteria for extended imprisonment terms

Working group required to submit findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to Legislature no later than twenty days before Regular Session of 2014 and dissolve June 30, 2014

Certified copies to be transmitted to courts administrator, attorney general, public safety director, all prosecuting attorneys, state public defender, and bar association section chairperson
