HI HB1521

Adds unauthorized entry into motor vehicle in the first degree (HRS 708-836.5) to the list of felonies triggering mandatory minimum sentencing for repeat offenders.

Requires mandatory minimum imprisonment periods for persons convicted of this offense with one or more prior felony convictions, ranging from 1 year 8 months to 5 years depending on number of prior convictions.

Applies the same mandatory minimum sentencing framework already in place for other enumerated class C felonies to unauthorized entry into motor vehicle offenses.

Does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that occurred before the effective date.

Takes effect upon approval.
