Adds assault of sports officials as a new Class C felony offense under Hawaii Revised Statutes section 707-711(1)(j).

Defines assault as intentionally or knowingly causing bodily injury to a sports official in retaliation for or on account of the official's performance of duty at a sports event.

Defines "sports official" as a person who enforces rules at a sports event (such as an umpire or referee) or supervises participants (such as a coach).

Defines "sports event" as any organized amateur or professional athletic contest in the State.

Takes effect upon approval and does not affect proceedings or penalties that occurred before the law's effective date.
