HI HB2031

Requires licensed marriage and family therapists to complete a minimum of 45 credit hours of continuing education during each three-year licensing renewal period, beginning January 1, 2017, with at least 6 hours in ethics courses.

Defines "continuing education courses" as those approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, American Psychological Association, National Association of Social Workers, or National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates, Inc.

Exempts first-time licensees from the continuing education requirement for their initial license renewal.

Allows the director to grant extensions for non-compliance based on geographic isolation or serious extenuating circumstances, requiring 90 hours of continuing education (including 12 hours in ethics) before the next renewal period.

Authorizes the director to conduct random audits of licensees and requires licensees to certify compliance under oath at renewal; adds false certification of compliance as grounds for license denial, revocation, or suspension.
