HI HB601

Prohibits individuals from receiving compensation from private employers or other private entities for interning or volunteering with the legislature.

Permits compensation from private universities or schools if the person is a student receiving academic credit for the internship.

Defines "internship" as any work, including volunteer work, performed for the legislature by individuals who are not State employees.

Adds a new section to Chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statutes (ethics law) to establish these standards.

Takes effect upon approval and does not affect rights, duties, or proceedings that occurred before enactment.
