Request the University of Hawaii to create a task force to develop a plan for increasing students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors aligned with Hawaii industry demands.

Task force membership includes the University of Hawaii System President (or designee), Superintendent of Education (or designee), Executive Director of Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education (or designee), University of Hawaii faculty from STEM fields selected by the Professional Assembly, and STEM industry representatives selected by the Governor.

Task force must conduct a mapping exercise of current STEM initiatives, establish findings and recommend solutions to increase student readiness for STEM fields, and identify trends in Hawaii workforce needs in STEM fields.

University of Hawaii must submit the task force's findings, recommendations, overall plan, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the 2015 Regular Session convening.

Concurrent copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Governor, President of the University of Hawaii, Superintendent of Education, and Executive Director of Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education.
