Department of Health is requested to convene a family caregivers working group to examine issues related to hospital discharge planning, caregiver training, and resources needed to support patients released from hospitals.

Working group shall assess the role of caregivers in discharge planning, current caregiver designation and training practices, hospital liability concerns, and what role hospitals versus other entities should play in caregiver training.

Working group membership includes 19 specified participants including representatives from AARP Hawaii, Healthcare Association of Hawaii, hospitals, health systems, home health care organizations, skilled nursing facilities, county aging agencies, health insurance plans, and various disease and care organizations, with Senate and House members serving as co-chairs.

Working group is requested to submit written findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2015 Regular Session convenes.

Working group ceases to exist on June 30, 2016.
