Request that Kamehameha Schools refrain from developing the 4.5-acre "Great Lawn" parcel in Hawaii Kai and preserve it in its natural state.

Great Lawn is zoned as preservation land, bordered by Hawaii Kai Drive, Kalanianaole Highway, and Keahole Street across from Maunalua Bay, and serves as an iconic landmark to the community.

Kamehameha Schools proposed developing the Great Lawn into a shopping complex with Foodland as anchor tenant in 2013, prompting community opposition and a town hall meeting with over 300 attendees on March 21, 2013.

Kamehameha Schools temporarily suspended development plans in response to community outcry, and the resolution notes other suitable locations exist for such commercial development.

Direct certified copies of the resolution to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer of Kamehameha Schools and the Chairperson of the Hawaii Kai Neighborhood Board.
