HI HR22

Urges the President of the United States and Congress to grant veterans benefits to Filipino veterans who fought in World War II but were denied benefits after Philippine independence in 1946.

Acknowledges that Filipino soldiers volunteered for the Philippine Commonwealth Army and Philippine Scouts after being promised full U.S. veterans benefits by executive order in 1941.

Recognizes that thousands of Filipino men and women fought alongside American troops, including at Bataan and Corregidor, but lost eligibility for U.S. veterans benefits such as health care, disability pensions, and burial expenses upon Philippine independence.

Notes that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 included a provision for lump sum payments to Filipino veterans in lieu of pensions.

Directs certified copies be sent to the President, Congress, Department of Veterans Affairs, Hawaii's Congressional delegation, and the Philippine government.
