Calls for enhancement of social-studies courses and integration of civic education content, processes, and strategies to expand students' knowledge and skills as informed, active citizens.

Emphasizes that civic education should include direct instruction and involvement in democratic simulations and community problem-solving, not just information and written tests.

Cites the Department of Education's Strategic Plan (2011-2018) which states students should develop connections to their community and contribute to civic life.

Requires copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, teachers' associations, and civic education organizations.
