Urges community awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no known cure and a median survival of 2-5 years after diagnosis.

Recognizes that military veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS compared to non-veterans, and notes the Department of Veterans Affairs presumes service connection for ALS in veterans.

Supports the "Walk to Defeat ALS" scheduled for September 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Kapiolani Regional Park in Honolulu as a joint community awareness event.

Recognizes the 75th anniversary in 2014 of Lou Gehrig's farewell speech at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939, to be observed during the National ALS Association's advocacy gathering in May 2014.

Directs transmission of certified copies of the resolution to Hawaii's congressional delegation, Department of Veterans Affairs, state and national ALS organizations, medical associations, and other relevant entities.
