Naturopathic physicians must obtain a certificate of specialty practice from the board before practicing naturopathic childbirth attendance.

Applicants must pass a national standardized supplemental examination in naturopathic childbirth attendance or another board-approved specialty examination.

Applicants must complete a minimum of 100 hours in coursework, internship, or preceptorship in naturopathic childbirth attendance, upon board approval.

Applicants must assist in a minimum of 50 supervised births including prenatal and postnatal care, with at least 25 births as the primary birth attendant, under supervision of a licensed naturopathic, medical, or osteopathic physician with obstetrics or natural childbirth training.

The board of naturopathy shall establish rules specifying additional certification requirements for the specialty practice.
