SB2228 Summary

• Establishes a fall prevention and early detection coordinator position within the Department of Health's Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention System Branch to coordinate elderly fall prevention services, funded from the trauma system special fund.

• Removes the requirement that the Alzheimer's disease and related dementia services coordinator be appointed by the director in accordance with civil service chapters 76 and 89.

• Appropriates general revenue funds for an Alzheimer's disease and related dementia services coordinator position, kupuna care program, aging and disability resource centers, senior center grants, and healthy aging partnership program.

• Requires the executive office on aging to conduct a long-term care education and awareness campaign addressing costs, financing options, and planning resources, with an independent evaluation due to the legislature by 2017.

• Establishes an elder justice coordinator position to plan statewide initiatives preventing elder abuse and fraud, and establishes a long-term supports and services system and resource development coordinator to improve operational efficiency and funding sustainability of aging network organizations.
