Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2014-2015 to establish an interdisciplinary primary care training program at Maui Memorial Medical Center under the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation

Program includes family medicine residency training, advanced practice nurses, clinical pharmacists, and post-doctoral psychology fellows to address critical shortage of primary care providers statewide

Training model creates interdisciplinary teams capable of serving four times as many patients as independent physicians, reducing need to recruit large numbers of physicians to rural areas

Expands existing successful training program currently administered by Hilo Medical Center to other neighbor island health facilities

Effective date is July 1, 2014
