Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism requested to establish a task force to study photovoltaic panel disposal and recommend strategies to improve disposal practices in Hawaii.

Task force membership includes the DBEDT Director or designee, photovoltaic industry representatives appointed by the Governor, one House member appointed by the Speaker, one Senate member appointed by the Senate President, and additional members as determined by the chairperson.

Members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for expenses including travel costs, and designate a chairperson from among themselves.

Task force directed to consider local, national, and international technologies for disposing of photovoltaic waste, prompted by panels installed in the 1990s reaching end-of-life within the next few years.

Task force required to report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2015 Regular Session convenes and dissolves on June 30, 2015.
