University of Hawaii and Department of Labor and Industrial Relations requested to conduct a county-by-county review of workforce requirements for professional and paraprofessional elder care workers over the next decade.

Review aims to address Hawaii's rapidly growing elderly population, which is increasing at two to three times the national average.

Findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, must be submitted to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2015 Regular Session convenes.

Resolution recognizes existing University of Hawaii programs addressing elder care needs, including geriatrics, nursing, elder law, social work, and aging centers, but notes minimal overall planning has occurred.

Resolution affirms that increasing the elder care workforce will require creative initiatives and closer collaboration between the state's schools and higher education programs.
