HI HB1000

Voids any franchise agreement provision that restricts jurisdiction or venue to a forum outside of Hawaii, making such provisions voidable at the franchisee's option for claims arising under or relating to a Hawaii franchise.

Requires franchise disputes involving Hawaii franchises to be adjudicated in Hawaii courts rather than out-of-state jurisdictions, addressing the impracticality and cost burden on franchisees of litigating thousands of miles away.

Applies to all claims arising under or relating to a franchise in Hawaii or business dealings concerning such franchises, ensuring witnesses and physical evidence located in the State can be utilized.

Effective date is July 1, 2112.
