Motion picture theater chains operating more than two locations in Hawaii must provide open movie captioning during at least two showings per week for films produced with captioning available.

All motion picture theaters in Hawaii must provide audio description upon request for films produced with audio description available.

Violations of these requirements constitute discriminatory practices under Hawaii law.

Theater operators must provide notice to the public when films are offered without captioning or audio description capabilities.

This law takes effect January 1, 2016 and expires January 1, 2018 (sunset provision).
