Law enforcement officers may require operators to exhibit the weigh receipt during traffic stops or vehicle inspections; failure to produce the receipt results in a citation requiring immediate return to the harbor for weighing.

Maritime cargo carriers must submit detailed lists to the department from shipping manifests identifying every shipping container or load weighing 55,000 pounds or more that arrives at commercial harbors and will be transported on state highways.

Violations are subject to fines ranging from $5 to $1,000, with citations issued for operating without a receipt classified as traffic infractions.
