HB 722 Summary

• Establishes a Lipoa Point Management Council within the Department of Land and Natural Resources to manage the 244-acre Lipoa Point parcel on Maui acquired by the State.

• Council consists of five members: the Maui County Mayor (or designee), the Board of Land and Natural Resources chairperson (or designee), two community members, and a representative from the Aha Moku Council for Maui or Native Hawaiian community.

• Requires any entity developing plans for Lipoa Point to collaborate with and consider the council's recommendations; mandates the council submit activity reports to the legislature before each regular session.

• Appropriates funds for fiscal years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 to develop a master plan and environmental impact statement, contract for land surveyor services, and pay for maintenance services at Lipoa Point.

• Effective date is July 1, 2050.
