H.C.R. NO. 148

• Requests the University of Hawaii Office of the President and College of Hawaiian Language to establish a working group examining expansion of Hawaiian language instruction throughout the University of Hawaii System.

• Working group must research and report on the College of Hawaiian Language's current structure and pedagogy, recent student-driven trends in Hawaiian language learning, and strategies to enhance Hawaiian language instruction across University of Hawaii campuses.

• Working group composition includes the UH President or designee, Vice President for Academic Affairs or designee, UH at Hilo Chancellor or designee, College of Hawaiian Language Director or designee, and one representative from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

• Working group must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2016 Regular Session convening, then dissolve on June 30, 2016.

• Resolution acknowledges the College of Hawaiian Language's national and international programs conducted entirely in Hawaiian, and notes standard University of Hawaii System structure creates barriers to maximum use of Hawaiian language instruction throughout the system.
