H.C.R. No. 54 Summary

• Urges the Department of Health to require medical care professionals to provide all pregnant women with information on prenatal Down syndrome screening and testing, associated risks, and support resources.

• Requests the Department of Health collect and report data on the number of fetuses diagnosed with Down syndrome that are aborted versus carried to term since 2010.

• Requires submission of a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2016 Regular Session detailing pregnancies terminated due to Down syndrome diagnosis and those carried to term.

• Directs certified copies be transmitted to the Director of Health, Chairperson of the Hawaii Medical Board, and President of the Hawaii Medical Association.
