Department of Agriculture is requested to establish a Hawaii good agricultural practices program for farms growing local agricultural food products with science- and risk-based standards to reduce potential for on-farm food-borne illness.

Program must develop education and training initiatives for Hawaii farmers to implement good agricultural practices in a cost-effective manner.

Program must provide voluntary verification procedures for on-farm implementation of good agricultural practices and issue state compliance certification.

Program must develop a consumer information program for publication and broadcast on home treatment and handling practices for fresh and processed agricultural food products.

Department of Agriculture must consult with the Department of Health, University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, and other state and federal agencies to develop and implement the program.
