Request that the Department of Accounting and General Services operate the water pumping system of the State Capitol Ponds for two hours per day to circulate water and prevent stagnation.

State Capitol Ponds contain saltwater marine fish species including Manini, Mamo, Kala, Papio, Aholehole, Mullet, and Tilapia that require water circulation for health and survival.

Ponds are part of the Capitol Building's original design concept symbolizing the Pacific Ocean surrounding Hawaii, and the Capitol is recognized nationally as the only U.S. Capitol surrounded by a pond containing marine fish.

Water quality and odor improve noticeably when the pumping system operates, and fish populations previously thrived in the pond before 1990s renovations ceased replenishment efforts.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be sent to the State Comptroller and the building manager of the State Capitol Building.
