Department of Transportation directed to convene a working group to investigate and assess safety concerns on Queen Kaahumanu Highway between Makala Boulevard and Henry Street on the Island of Hawaii.

Working group chaired by the Director of Transportation or designee, with members including representatives from Hawaii County Public Works, Planning Department, Police Department, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii, Hawaii Cycling Club, and Coffee Talk Riders.

South-bound bicycle lane added during 2009 highway widening project created safety concerns, with a December 2014 restriping project attempted to address issues but community complaints continue.

Working group required to submit findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2016 Regular Session.

Certified copies of resolution to be transmitted to Department of Transportation, County of Hawaii officials, Hawaii Police Department, and relevant cycling and trails advocacy organizations.
