Replace the term "African American" with "American of African Descent" as the race category used in surveys conducted by the State of Hawaii.

Recognize that many individuals do not identify with the "African American" category because it does not adequately describe the culturally diverse and ethnically unique group.

Establish that "American of African Descent" is a broader representation of an individual's race and ethnicity for self-identifying survey responses.

Direct that certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
